Dr. Sue McGillvray

Veterinarian

Dr. Susan McGillivray grew up on a cattle ranch south of Kamloops, and almost every day of her childhood involved animal care. Ever since she was little, Dr. McGillivray has wanted to make animals’ lives better; she gets to do just that as a member of the Kamloops Veterinary Clinic team.

After high school, Dr. McGillivray attended Cariboo College for a year before moving to Saskatoon and completing a year of post-secondary education at the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. She was accepted into the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her DVM in 1994, and then completed a small animal medical and surgical internship at Virginia-Maryland Polytechnic University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Dr. McGillivray then relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado to work and study at Colorado State University’s Small Animal Medicine department before moving back to Canada in 1996.

Dr. McGillivray first worked here at Kamloops Veterinary Clinic as a summer student in 1990, then returned in 1998 to work as an Associate Veterinarian. In 2012, Dr. McGillivray began working part-time with Dr. Davies; she particularly enjoys small-animal care, internal medicine, and helping to strengthen and enhance the special bonds between pets and their loving owners.

Dr. McGillivray and her husband Jason, who is a large-animal veterinarian, have three children and are raising them on the ranch that Dr. McGillivray grew up on. They keep a herd of Angus cattle, several ranch horses, and a small flock of Dorset ewes. The McGillivray’s also share their home with two dogs and two indoor cats, as well as a guardian dog that protects the sheep.
